Man and his Destiny

December 2004

It was a fine dawn. The usual silence was there but for the musical waves of the sea. The gorgeous sea which everyday cleanses stresses of people who do a morning walk suddenly turned into a beast. Is it a cacophony that just the sea turned out of rhythm? – Nay, It was the devastating so called “Tsunami”– a word that was not familiar for Indians then. Sea had its feast, ate humans in industrial quantities. I wondered that though man has evolved as the fittest species he couldn’t do anything about it but to become an easy prey to the same nature which he has been thriving on for centuries. Then I started thinking the answer for ‘what man really is?’ – An age old question.

What man is? What is his destiny? – Ever present question in our mind. It is tragic that many people blunder through their life and they haven’t even tried to find the answers for these vital questions. One must acknowledge the existence of divine power which holds the switch to control the universe. It is because of the power that the Stars remain fixed in the vast space; Planets constantly circle in their orbits; Seasons come and go; Plants grow and cast their seeds; Birds in the sea, beasts on land and fishes, all live and reproduce themselves and man has evolved as the most intelligent of all living things.

Some people believe that man was simply the other image of god. Man indeed has the divine spark of life in him and is able to discover something. Therefore man is more than flesh, bone and blood. He possesses spiritual powers and is able to use these mysterious powers wisely to advance to greater heights of achievements. In other words he expresses the god like qualities in him. Everything in this universe is governed by fixed laws. Man is no exception. The nature of fire is to burn. If we keep our hands in fire we expect to get burnt .We do not blame fire. We blame ourselves for ignoring nature’s law.

Just as the divine power controls the universe so does man’s mind control his physical body and thoughts? Man develops or degenerates according to his thoughts. Though the divine power is perfect and good, man’s mind is by no means perfect and good. For countless generations man has been learning a lot of wonderful things in this school of experience most important of which is the study of science, which is still advancing at an alarming rate .Not so many years ago our ancestors were thrilled by the appearance and performance of the now humble bicycles which were used as a means of mechanical transport. But in the recent past powerful steam engines, motor cars, aero planes, space rockets have come into existence. Even this is not the end. Scientific knowledge has outstripped scientific fiction. All these remind us about psychological fact that whatever is in the mind of man tends to materialize.

Desire, effort towards the goal, sound knowledge, absolute faith, courage and endurance will make it possible for man to make miraculous achievements. We must desire, learn and work hard to achieve. One must accept the reality of Divine mind. If one considers himself as a poor, weak and insignificant person without a design of future then he is a living insult to the creator. Such negative thoughts will never bring us happiness health and success.

It is very disturbing to realize that how little most of us know about ourselves, our relationship with the divine. Not many of us know where we are going, why we are here at all or how we plan to reach wherever we are going. But we still hope to reach wherever we are going. Every individual has particular talents, intelligence and own desire, but he’d be wasting all his energy if he has no idea of the above mentioned like a dog chasing its tail.

Unless we love our work, it will neither bring success nor friendly relations with our fellows. Unless we respect others we will grow selfish, unhappy in our guilt even if we get success. If we apply nature’s law here man’s thoughts, emotions, attitudes of mind produce after their own kind as do the plants, birds, beasts and human beings.

Everything is based not only on nature’s law but also on principles of behavior. Man is what he thinks. The mental and spiritual part of man decides what he is. By right thinking he creates happiness and prosperity and by evil thinking he creates wars and misery. Man out of tune with divine mind is in the state of lower animals. Only by understanding ourselves we can attain the true destiny.

Man is born into this world to conquer the divine mind in all that he thinks and does. Man’s ultimate destiny is perfection of spirit.

I am telling you this theory in a sincere hope that you may be able to accept this as your own whatever or at least find an alternative which will give you deep satisfaction.
